Terry Martin - Instructor, Academic & Career planning coordinator

I am Terry Martin, an instructor dedicated to inspiring the next generation of innovators in the fields of applied technology and manufacturing.  I grew up in Wauwatosa and attended Wauwatosa West High School where Industrial Arts, especially woodworking, gave me purpose.  I was also blessed with an instructor that I connected with, and he was an excellent role model and mentor for me.  He will always be a  memorable example of how a teacher can connect with his or her students and help them achieve their ambitions.  Although I enjoyed science and math, the industrial labs gave me the opportunity to work with my hands and hone my creative skills.

After high school graduation, I enrolled at UW-Stout as an Industrial Education major. However, as a freshman my desire to learn more about science and technology drew me to the Applied Technology program.  In college I experienced the value of cooperative education when I completed a CNC programming co-op assignment at JI Case and two manufacturing engineering co-op opportunities at Texas Instruments.

Those co-op experiences gave me valuable insight and perspective that I applied to my coursework, and that I also used to jump start my 35+ year career in manufacturing.  As a result, I fully support the work-study Rocket Academy curriculum as it gives our students a definitive edge as they transition into a career or further their education.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Technology from UW-Stout and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). I am also certified in Lean methodologies and hold a CESA 7 certification. This perspective allows me to teach not only the skills necessary for success in manufacturing but also the critical thinking and leadership qualities that are essential in today’s workplace.

My wife and I live on our 5-acre hobby farm in rural Random Lake where we raised our two sons, who now work in chemical engineering and the financial sector. When we’re not at home working on projects, we enjoy biking, walking along the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan, exploring local trails, and engaging in all the various outdoor activities Wisconsin has to offer.

I am excited to connect with the Rocket Academy community and look forward to meeting new friends and colleagues. If you ever need assistance or just want to chat, please feel free to reach out!
